The Details

  • The Creative Curriculum and the State of Maine Early Learning Development Standards (MELDS) provide a framework for our curriculum, which is play based learning. Teachers strive to promote children’s learning across all developmental domains through hands-on educational activities and experiences. Our curriculum allows teachers the flexibility to make adaptations for individual children’s needs.

  • The Highland Pre-School program is designed to help foster the growth of the whole child— physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively and creatively. The program includes dramatic play, music, movement, games, craft activities, art and stories, as well as field trips and other special activities.

Our goal is to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere with varied creative play materials, and a program that will help your child develop a curiosity for the world around him/her and a love for learning!

  • At Highland Pre-School we like to maintain a child/teacher ratio which is lower than required by the Maine Licensing Rules set forth by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). While DHHS Licensing requires a 10:1 ratio, we strive to maintain an 8 or 9:1 ratio. Only teachers in the classroom are included in the count to determine these ratios. Parents and volunteers will at no time be included in the child/teacher ratio. Child/teacher ratios will be maintained during all hours of operation.
