About Us

Greetings! This page is designed to familiarize you with the philosophy of NAEYC-accredited Highland Pre-School. Please feel free to visit and ask any questions you may have that will help you decide how Highland Pre-School can best meet the needs of you and your child. A child’s experience at school can be enhanced by cooperation between the school and the parents, and we welcome your involvement! Parents are always welcome at Pre-School. A special time to visit for all or part of the day can be arranged with your child’s teacher. Our door is always open!

At Highland Pre-School we provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with an abundance of creative, interactive play materials. Believing that learning is social and that children learn best through play, our program offers a variety of playful, interesting and developmentally appropriate activities which are designed to help foster the growth of the whole child. Our primary focus is to provide fun, hands-on experiences to spark curiosity and inspire a genuine love for learning in each unique, special and important individual!

Highland Pre-School welcomes children from all area towns.  We are one of the few programs still in existence offering a traditional Pre-School experience.  We offer extended day services, but not full day care.  A quality preschool education can be one of the greatest gifts you can give to your child.  Highland is the perfect preschool for your child’ first classroom experience.  Schedule a visit…you’ll want to stay!

At Highland Pre-School seeds are planted … children bloom!

Our spacious, sunny classrooms are warm and welcoming.  With a large grassy field, slide, swings, sandbox, and a wooded area complete with a tree house, the outdoor playground provides an idyllic setting for endless exploration. We have the space to stretch our bodies and our imaginations!

Highland Pre-School program is located at 29 Kennebec Road in Hampden, Maine. This historic building, formerly McKinley School, was built in 1852. It functioned as a school until the early 1960’s. It was later occupied by the Hampden Post Office. The building was purchased in 1982 by Tami and Wayne Campbell, who operated the Hampden Day Care Center on the first floor and the Highland Pre-School on the second floor for twenty years. In the fall of 2003, Highland Pre-School expanded to utilize the entire building.

Original tin walls and ceilings and oversized schoolhouse windows help to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. An added bonus is our outside play area, which encompasses 1 1/2 acres. It includes a large field, a wooded area complete with tree house, and an area with playground equipment.
